Program Description:
The McGill University Advanced Fellowship in Otology, Neurotology, and Lateral Skull Base Surgery is a one-year, adult-focused fellowship designed for otolaryngologists seeking advanced clinical, surgical, and academic training in complex otologic and neurotologic disease.

The fellowship is 90% clinical and 10% research, offering comprehensive exposure to the diagnosis and management of auditory and vestibular disorders, cochlear implantation, chronic ear disease, and lateral skull base pathology. Fellows gain extensive operative experience in both traditional and endoscopic ear surgery, cochlear implantation, and collaborative skull base procedures alongside neurosurgery. It is a heavy surgical fellowship with over 400 cases per year.

Training occurs across several high-volume academic hospitals within the McGill University Health Centre and affiliated institutions, ensuring exposure to diverse patient populations and multidisciplinary care environments. The fellowship is not accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the American Board of Otolaryngology.

The fellow functions at a senior level, supervising residents in clinic and the operating room, leading otology consultations, and participating actively in multidisciplinary skull base and cochlear implant teams. Dedicated fellow clinics support the transition to independent academic or advanced clinical practice.

Participation in scholarly activity is mandatory. Fellows are expected to design and complete a research project, submit at least one peer-reviewed publication during the fellowship year, and present research at institutional, national, or international meetings.

Graduates of this fellowship are well prepared for academic careers, leadership roles, or high-level subspecialty otologic practice.
